What's worse, Arc begins his quest in his skeleton avatar character, which causes him to wear a disguise to prevent people from fearing him. Despite the challenge, Arc quickly adjusts to his new world and starts his adventure as an adventurer, exploring new lands, discovering new treasure troves, and getting involved in the realm's political turmoil. If you're curious about this anime, keep reading for more details about what to expect from Skeleton Knight in Another World.
Skeleton Knight in Another World may not offer anything new to the Isekai genre, but it certainly knows what it wants to be and delivers on that front. The story follows Arc, a man who finds himself Isekai-ed as his in-game skeleton avatar character, and embarks on a fantastical journey filled with adventure and perilous challenges.
The anime starts with Arc waking up in the game's world and realizing that he is using his skeleton avatar. He quickly adjusts to his new environment and goes to the nearby castle town of Luvierte to become an adventurer and earn money. However, despite his overpowered abilities, Arc has to wear a disguise to avoid unwanted attention from people who fear him because of his visage.
The show's premise is basic and straightforward, but it's the execution that keeps the viewers engaged. The pacing is fast, and the story maintains a good blend of seriousness and lightheartedness, making it enjoyable to watch. Arc's adventures take him to diverse territories filled with different monsters and people in need of help, and he promptly loots and helps those who need him. It's a familiar theme used in other Isekai shows, but the way Skeleton Knight presents it is captivating.
What's unique about Skeleton Knight is that it features a hero, which makes it stand out from other Isekai shows. Arc's character is a stereotypical simple-minded background NPC in an RPG, and the anime doesn't delve into his backstory. The extent of his reach is justified, and the viewer can't help but like him as he progresses through his adventure. Arc's motivation is to explore the fantasy world he's been Isekai-ed to, saving helpless folk and ultimately helping people serve their purpose. He's predictable but exaggerated, and this works to provide his own source of entertainment, mixing comedy and seriousness into his character.
The other character that stands out is Arc's elf companion, Ariane Glenys Maple. She's an elf warrior who has knowledge of the world's wicked doctrines of slavery and extortion against elves. Her position as the two commit together in saving the elves makes her character likable, and although she's weak to liquor, she's a determined and loyal companion.
Despite mixed reactions to the storyline and characters, Gaikotsu Kishi-sama a.k.a Skeleton Knight certainly delivers in terms of animation quality. Studio Kai's 2D-3DCG mix works well and the direction of Katsumi Ono ensures an over-the-top, eye-catching style that fits perfectly with the anime's plot. The music is also a standout aspect, with PelleK's bombastic OP and DIALOGUE+'s powerful ED adding to the overall experience. While it may not revolutionize the isekai genre, Skeleton Knight offers a fun and adventurous viewing experience with a heroic MC, and a decent supporting cast. Fans of action-packed, RPG style anime will surely be entertained by this show.
